Ross Tamlin Awarded Runner Up in Reimagine Art Prize 2023: May 22, 2023 - October 31, 2023

The Remagine Art Prize 2023, a prestigious art competition recognizing outstanding contemporary artists, has concluded with an announcement of the winners. We are delighted to announce that artist Ross Tamlin has been named the runner-up, securing second place in this year's competition. Tamlin's captivating painting, titled "Scrap Metal," garnered critical acclaim and earned him a prize.

Tamlin, a talented painter hailing from New Zealand, has been dedicated to the art world for many years. His unique artistic approach involves recycling houses and industrial paint, and incorporating them into his masterful creations. With an exceptional eye for detail and a profound understanding of the beauty that lies within overlooked materials, Tamlin has gained recognition for his ability to transform discarded elements into breathtaking works of art.

The inspiration behind Tamlin's remarkable piece, "Scrap Metal," stemmed from a recent visit to the local tip. Overwhelmed by the sight of an enormous heap of industrial and household waste, Tamlin felt compelled to capture the essence of this discarded treasure in his painting. By skillfully blending his creative vision with his commitment to sustainability, the artist brings to light the often-overlooked beauty hidden within the remnants of society's consumption.

Speaking about his painting, Tamlin shared, "I am an artist who has been recycling waste house and industrial paint, using it in my paintings for years. I was inspired to do a painting of the scrap metal I had seen on a recent trip to the local tip and was amazed by the massive pile of industrial and household waste." His work serves as a powerful reminder of the impact our actions have on the environment and challenges viewers to contemplate the potential for beauty even in discarded objects.

The Remagine Art Prize 2023 also recognized the talented glass artist Jennifer Kemarre Martiniello as the first prize winner. Her sculpture, "This work illustrates my caretaker roles of taking care of Country and shattering silences around dominant culture taboo about speaking openly about death. This is a self-portrait illustrating my journey through lung cancer and subsequent metastatic brain tumors," left an indelible impression on the jury and viewers alike.

Martiniello's compelling artwork embodies the connection between her First Nations heritage and her contemporary urban life. Through her use of Western technology and discarded materials, she skillfully illustrates her profound concern for the environment and her role as a caretaker of the Country.

The Remagine Art Prize celebrates artists like Ross Tamlin and Jennifer Kemarre Martiniello, whose work not only showcases their immense talent but also sparks conversations about the environment, culture, and our collective responsibility. The organizers of the competition commend all participants for their exceptional contributions, which continue to push the boundaries of artistic expression and inspire audiences worldwide.
