About

Rooted in introspection and emotional nuance, Xenia Gray’s figurative mixed media works capture the quiet tension between solitude and connection. Her paintings often depict the human form suspended in contemplative silence, inviting viewers into a space of stillness and shared vulnerability. Drawing from personal memory and collective feeling, Gray’s work explores the invisible forces that tether us to each other and to the self.

This 24-inch tall by 20-inch wide original artwork was created with acrylic paint on canvas. This artwork is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. It is signed on the back of the canvas. Born and raised in post-Soviet Siberia, Gray developed a heightened sensitivity to silence, absence, and the subtleties of human emotion. She began formal art training at the age of nine and later earned her BA and MA in Advertisement Design from Saint Petersburg State University of Technology and Design. After relocating to the United States in 2010, Gray’s artistic journey evolved into a deeper exploration of the psychological and metaphysical through figurative expression.

Gray’s work is created through an intuitive process, using oil, acrylic, and charcoal to layer ambiguity and presence. Embracing restraint and space, she builds compositions where the figure becomes a vessel for unspoken emotion. Each piece is a meditation—on memory, on stillness, and on the unseen dynamics of human experience.

Gray has exhibited widely in the United States and internationally, with solo and group exhibitions in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Mexico City, and beyond. Her growing presence in the contemporary art scene continues to resonate with collectors drawn to deeply expressive, meditative works that offer both emotional intimacy and universal insight.

Xenia Gray

Xenia Gray

Xenia Gray is a contemporary figurative artist whose emotionally charged mixed media works delve into the tension between isolation and connection. Drawing from her upbringing in post-Soviet Siberia, Gray transforms personal history into poetic visual language, using oil, acrylic, and charcoal to explore the unspoken and the unseen. Her compositions are marked by a compelling use of negative space and ambiguity, inviting viewers to slow down and engage in quiet contemplation.

Trained in both fine art and design, Gray earned her MA in advertisement design from Saint Petersburg State University of Technology and Design before relocating to the United States in 2010. Her industrial hometown and formative years in Russia continue to shape her aesthetic, lending a muted strength and emotional depth to her work. Each painting serves as an introspective journey, tracing the outlines of solitude, memory, and the longing for understanding.

Guided by intuition and a desire to transcend ego, Gray's process is as much about surrender as it is about expression. Through gestural lines and delicate layering, the human form becomes a vessel—at once personal and universal—for what words cannot convey. Her figures, often caught in moments of stillness, seem to hover between presence and absence, offering a space where viewers can reflect on their own emotional landscapes.

Gray’s work resonates with those drawn to art that quietly reveals itself over time, providing a deeply personal yet widely relatable experience. Her paintings are not declarations but invitations—to feel, to witness, and to connect beyond the surface.
