About

Bettina Mauel expresses vitality and sensuality in her abstract impressionist landscape, seascape, and figurative paintings. Her artworks often incorporate a sophisticated and vibrant sense of movement.

This original ocean-inspired artwork is 24-inches high by 40-inches wide. Mauel created this one-of-a-kind seascape painting by placing several layers of oil paint on linen canvas with a balanced subtlety. This horizontal artwork is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. It is signed and dated by the artist on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and worldwide shipping available. Provenance: Artspace Warehouse. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.

Bettina Mauel was born 1959 in Wuppertal, Germany. She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Gerhard Richter, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. In the many years of her artistic work, she has devoted herself to a single, yet inexhaustible theme of perception and impermanence; capturing the fleeting movements of our ever-changing world. Mauel has exemplified herself as an expert in the acute perception of ephemeral moments.

In 1984 Mauel was asked by the city of Wuppertal, Germany to paint scenes of the dance theater of Pina Bausch. This had a major influence on the selection of themes in her imagery. Rather than focusing on spectacular poses, she pays careful attention to the spontaneous movements in-between, capturing a resonating rush of color and form. “I paint what I experience,” she articulates. “This includes landscapes, dancers, and people in motion, capturing them at a particular moment in time.” These impromptu paintings combine a long tradition of Eastern scroll painting, expressionist sketch, and fashion illustration.

Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been shown in numerous exhibitions and art fairs throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. Her artworks have been acquired by many notable museums and public institutions.

Mauel expresses dynamism and sensuality in her paintings. “I paint what I experience,” she articulates. “This includes landscapes, flowers, and people in motion, capturing them at a particular moment in time.” Whether the subject be dancers, cityscapes, landscapes, or pure expressionistic brushstrokes, Mauel has exemplified herself as an expert in the acute perception of ephemeral moments.
