Artist Talk with Internationally Acclaimed Sculptor Atticus Adams

Artspace Warehouse is pleased to welcome internationally acclaimed sculptor Atticus Adams for an afternoon artist talk on Saturday, September 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Known for transforming industrial metal mesh into expressive sculptural forms that appear organic, architectural, and weightless, Adams will discuss his material process, creative influences, and the evolution of his practice.
Adams is an established American sculptor whose work brings a remarkable sense of movement and delicacy to industrial materials. Working primarily with aluminum, copper, bronze, and stainless steel mesh, he shapes each sculpture by hand through a process of cutting, crimping, folding, and layering. His works often suggest flowers, clouds, water, foliage, and architectural structures, holding a striking tension between strength and fragility.
Raised in West Virginia and now based in Pittsburgh, Adams describes his work through the lens of Neo-Appalachian folk art. His sculptures draw from childhood memory, regional craft traditions, and the natural landscape of Appalachia, while remaining distinctly contemporary in material and form. His practice brings together the physical intelligence of handwork with a sculptural language that feels open, dimensional, and quietly inventive.
Adams’ work has been exhibited at respected institutions including Carnegie Museum of Art, Mattress Factory, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, and The Frick Pittsburgh. In 2018, he was named Artist of the Year by the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. His recent exhibitions in Mexico City, Mérida and Monterrey reflect an expanding international practice, while his Mérida studio has become an important setting for new experimentation and a deeper engagement with material, place, and form.
Guests will have the opportunity to hear Adams speak about the ideas, experiences, and environments that continue to shape his work. The afternoon offers a closer, more personal understanding of contemporary sculpture through direct conversation with the artist and time for audience questions.
