Billy Criswell
Billy Criswell is a sculptor based in Portland, Oregon. Using organic and manufactured materials, such as wood and metal, his work employs a synergistic balance between natural and urban elements. His current series incorporates familiar geometric forms taken out of their normal context to create new energy and shapes that explore light, color, perspective and space.
Painted in monochromatic colors, these dynamic forms evoke juxtaposed elements of implosion and explosion, thereby challenging the viewer's perception.
His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States. In addition, he is displayed in many public and corporate collections. He was the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Grant in 2010, and a United States Artists Foundation Grant in 2011.
Criswell's work is displayed in many public and corporate collections, including the Chicago Arts Council in Chicago; Pfizer Corporate Headquarters in New York, NY; the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo, Japan; and Disney Studios in Los Angeles, CA.
