Erickson’s paintings reveal the power of color as a language for feeling. She begins with vivid thoughts of color, allowing imagery and meaning to develop through the process of painting. Symbols, shapes, and layered surfaces come together through instinctive decisions, creating works that invite personal reflection. Inspired by the color and form of Odilon Redon, Erickson brings a sense of inner vision to her practice, building compositions that feel dreamlike, meditative, and emotionally resonant.
Canadian artist Denna Erickson was born in Edmonton, Alberta. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria. Erickson has been teaching and working as an artist on the West Coast for the past 30 years. She spent 24 years working from a studio at 1000 Parker Street in Vancouver, where she became an active part of the Parker Street arts community and participated regularly in the Eastside Culture Crawl. Her exhibition history includes solo and two-person exhibitions at Yeats Gallery, Gallery 33, and Elissa Cristall Gallery, along with group exhibitions in British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, Ontario, and Singapore.
