Rachel Taggart

Rachel Taggart

Rachel Taggart is a Canadian contemporary artist whose paintings explore light, color, transparency, and depth through layered acrylic compositions. Working with diluted acrylic on raw canvas, she creates abstract works that balance openness and structure, allowing color, line, and form to develop through a refined sense of movement and restraint.

Originally trained in Biology and Education, Taggart began painting in 2001 after years of creative exploration through sewing, stained glass, building projects, and other hands-on practices. Her background informs an intuitive approach to painting, where observation, experimentation, and material sensitivity shape a practice that moves across several distinct bodies of work. Her paintings include both landscape and abstraction, with each series reflecting a different aspect of her artistic language.
