Dana Cowie
Dana Cowie’s richly textured paintings transform rural landscapes into vibrant mosaics of color and form. Using a bold impasto technique and cubist-inspired structure, her artworks feel abstract up close but resolve into familiar pastoral landscape and seascape scenes from afar—each one pulsing with energy, nostalgia, and warmth. Her controlled color palettes go beyond realism, capturing the emotional essence of place through light, shadow, and movement.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1975, Cowie studied visual art in Toronto and has lived in Japan and British Columbia—experiences that continue to shape her artistic voice. Now based in Owen Sound, Canada, she paints the landscapes that surround her.
Her work has been exhibited across Canada, the U.S., and England, collected internationally, and featured in Style at Home, House & Garden UK, and Escarpment Magazine. Cowie’s paintings invite viewers to reconnect with the land—and to see beauty in its layered simplicity.
