Ruxandra Bocin-Dumitriu

Ruxandra Cristina Bocin-Dumitriu was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1979 and was always fascinated by two, otherwise distinct, areas: art and technology. Studying both meant the artist got in very close contact with both hard programming (C++, Java, artificial intelligence) and pure graphic art studies. The unusual combination led to an ease of expression through technology as well as a special take on visual metaphors.

Dumitriu's elected themes investigate perception mechanisms, digital dimensions and technologies, media and broadcasting issues, surveillance society and society paradigm shifts generated from new technologies. The artist is on an avid quest to understand how meaning is created through interaction, how the translation of actions through different media transforms the meaning itself. Perceptions, both internal and of the worlds, are recreated in each work to break the bias that the media creates. Her works are exhibited in the United States of America, The Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Romania, Israel, and Denmark.

Ruxandra Cristina Bocin-Dumitriu was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1979. She is currently living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Ruxandra explores hidden worlds in an existential search for the essence of life. Perception is the main driver theme in her photography, graphic art or performances. Perception of the surrounding world, of the inner institutions, the inner world of thoughts, emotions, projections of life where the artist explores the facets of brain visual deconstruction and its consequences for art. In the series, The Inner World, the body of work explores the inextricable beauty of inner thought through intervention on photography. Bocin-Dumitriu’s monochromatic reflections bring meaning at the core of being and is, in return, filled with and by it.

Mechanisms, digital dimension and technologies, media and broadcasting issues, surveillance society and social paradigm shifts generated from new technologies are other areas where perception is tackled though the ways paraphernalia of surveillance, peerveillance and sousveillance and the changes in the fine social-psychological changes they bring.

In photography, Ruxandra captures intimate moments through portraits, investigating the inner life of the people in front of the camera lenses. The artist is also drawn to the abstract present in real life, searching to identify patterns in both innate objects and natural landscape.

Professional visual artist, Ruxandra received her M.F.A. in visual arts from Bucharest Fine Arts University in parallel with B.S. in Computer and Automated Sciences from Bucharest Polytechnics University. Member of International Artists Association since 2006 and of Romanian Fine Artists Union since 2005.
