The Feministic Eye

The Feministic Eye is an exhibition from Artspace Warehouse that features works from Cynthia Coulombe-Bégin, Martina Niederhauser, Nayla Saroufim, and Clara Berta in a reflective exhibition exploring the mind and soul of the female artist. The exhibition will feature sensitive female portraitures, and highly textural abstract works mixed in with three-dimensional pop art sculptures. These artists dig deep to reveal the vulnerable self in order to shed light on the beauty from within.
Cynthia Coulombe-Bégin draws inspiration from the body and the experience of humankind. She brings a sensitivity to her work that stems from her exploration of identity and existence in performance art. Coulombe-Bégin’s work portrays specific parts of the human body, especially large close-up portrayals of the mouth and eyes, which are depicted with great contrasts of color and chiaroscuro. These symbols are constructed with specific gestures and drippings in which Coulombe-Bégin portrays an abstract universe full of movement, symbolism, and eroticism.
A creative, a dreamer, and a lover of color and beauty, Nayla Kai Saroufim’s artworks merge abstraction and surrealism in a rich fusion of pop art inspirations. Her technique is unique and personalized: a fusion of mixed media and installations in layers of steel, copper, wood, and other elements. Saroufim was always captivated by the dialogue between painting, illustration, and graphics. She strives to make her positivity and love of happiness appear in her art, sparking emotion and thoughts in viewers. She hopes that by looking at her art, people will realize that there is beauty and happiness in the simplest things.
Clara Berta’s paintings explore themes such as the ebb and flow of memory, the significance of personal heritage, the passing of physical time, desire, grief, and love. Her Hungarian heritage is pushed through the joyful use of traditional clothing colors and the predominant theme of water and its natural healing properties. Often including reminders of her travels, her abstract works express unexpected sequences of patterns as well as distortion of perspectives and subconscious spaces.
Martina Niederhauser fuses depth, feeling, and beauty into her portraits of women. She seeks to share without words, painting the canvas as a “diary written in colors” with communicative forms and conjunctive lines: all expressing her life and her world. Inspired by line, Niederhauser paints on highly textured patterned backgrounds composed of vintage book pages and sheet music. The collages that make up her background enhance the aged character of old paper from all over the world.
