Combining contemporary portraiture with minimalist abstract graffiti-style crowns, Brian Smith’s figurative mixed media works exude modern elegance. His crowns are a recognizable symbol of modern popular culture, expressing a radiance akin to luminous clouds. They are a perfect complement to his fascination with the interplay of the material world and the intellect. The mysterious gaze and confident poses of his subjects express freedom and tenacity.
This 20 inch high by 16 inch wide original painting is wired and ready to hang. The painting is created with acrylic paint and silver leaf on canvas. The sides of this figurative artwork are finished as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. The artist used silver leaf in this painting, it reflects light and adds dimensionality. This artwork is signed by the artist on the front and back. Convenient local Los Angeles shipping. Affordable U.S. and worldwide shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
The repetition of crowns as the main theme across his body of work reveals Smith’s interest in the intersection of fashion, royalty, and creative expression. “There is this great intrigue around royalty and nobility. I like to mix that fascination with contemporary aspects of fashion photography and a hint of urban art to capture the emotions associated with this culture”.
Brian Smith graduated from Savannah College of Art & Design obtaining a B.F.A. in Production Design and Art History. He now resides in Hollywood, California, and has exhibited at art galleries in Los Angeles since 2020.

American artist, Brian Smith, combines contemporary portraiture and pop culture iconography with his hyperrealist style. He pairs his detailed subjects with minimalist backgrounds – sometimes stark, colorful, or with a gilded metal leafing that creates a dynamic relationship within the work. “I want the detail of my artwork to entice the viewer in and allow them to draw their own conclusions about the image. I like to fuse my hyperrealist technique with a subtle veil of surrealism and mystery…whether that is the gaze of a figure or the reflection from a still object.”
