About

Ricky Hunt’s mixed media minimalist paintings are influenced by his tumultuous past that led to a paradigm shift in his creative practice. His works evoke the many layers of his life. Philosophy, mathematics, scientific theory, poetry and astronomy are a few of the themes that run through his paintings and he expresses it with a unique process; adding and subtracting visual elements. Several layers of glossy resin create stimulating fields of color. Hunt describes his contemporary imagery as, “Chaotic order pouring from the watery depths of my unconscious”. Beneath the water, one can see the chaotic realm of the artist pushing through.

This one-of-a-kind minimalist painting on wood measures 16 inches high by 12 inches wide. It is wired and ready to hang. The front is covered with resin which the artist allows to drip down the sides for added textural intrigue. It does not require framing. It is signed and titled on the back of the artwork. Convenient local Los Angeles shipping. Affordable U.S. and international shipping are also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.

Hunt's works reflect how he brought order into the chaos of his earlier existence. His works evoke the many layers of his life. The top layer is covered with resin, adding a smooth reflective finish to the intriguing depth of his surfaces.

Ricky Hunt lives in Los Angeles. A brief period of drug addiction in the 1980's led to a term of incarceration for the artist. This in turn led to the discovery of his artistic talent and personal transformation through the love of art. He found inspiration in artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Mark Rothko. Hunt began to teach himself to draw in 1995. Nine months later Tiger Woods’ father Earl, commissioned a pastel portrait which he described as “the best portrait of Tiger ever painted”. From this traditional foundation in fine art, Hunt's work transformed into the contemporary painting approach seen today.

Ricky Hunt's international success started with his first sold-out exhibition at Artspace Warehouse in Los Angeles in 2016, which led to an international collector base and exhibitions worldwide. Notable private collectors include Charles Harder, Kelly Clarkson, Graeme Hart, Sonia Livingstone, and Charles Harder.

Ricky Hunt

Ricky Hunt, a highly acclaimed artist known for his international success, draws inspiration from the intricate layers of life, delving into themes of philosophy, mathematics, scientific theory, poetry, and astronomy. His abstract art serves as a captivating exploration of the interplay between organic and geometric shapes, inviting viewers into a world of profound meaning and personal reflection. Hunt's artistic journey has been marked by a transformation towards minimalism, where he skillfully crafts mixed media pieces that encapsulate his own evolution and growth.

Having embarked on his artistic journey in 1995, Hunt's initial exploration of traditional drawing techniques soon gave way to a distinctive style that would define his career. Through his meticulous approach, Hunt applies and removes layers of acrylic paint, revealing the underlying evolution of color and texture beneath. This process mirrors the layers of his own life, symbolizing the journey from chaos to harmony. The surfaces of his works are further elevated by a final touch: an application of lustrous resin. This glossy coating not only adds a smooth and reflective finish but also serves as a metaphorical representation of the intriguing depth found within the layers of his art.
