Mixed Media, Aluminum on Wood Panel
48 x 32 in
122 x 81 cm
This 48 inch tall by 32 inch wide original artwork is wired and ready to hang. David Jang uses aluminum to create this unique artwork on wood panel. Jang uses heat, oil and wax to transform the surface texture of aluminum, which he then adheres to panels of stained plywood. His treatment of the metals results in some parts of the artwork being more reflective while others are matte. Depending on the light, some sections almost appear as Mother-of-Pearl, reinforcing his idea of creating something precious out of everyday materials. The sides of the artwork are stained natural wood. He mounts the plywood panels onto a wooden frame so that they protrude from the wall slightly, creating a subtle shadow effect when the artwork is installed. It does not require framing. It is signed on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable US and global shipping is available. A certificate of authenticity is included.

David Jang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1975 and received his BFA from the College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, Minnesota, where he studied sculpture and painting. He lives in Los Angeles. Jang strives to transform the detritus of urban life into minimalist paintings of formal elegance, both gritty and sublime. He hopes to inspire others to discover art as a necessity to the human condition, not a luxury.
Jang uses an exacting, fanciful, even obsessive re-appropriation of common materials to create his works—one in which he deconstructs, reprograms and reconstitutes industrial and commercial cast-offs to reveal new relationships between the object and the viewer. Most people know the media he uses in their ubiquitous forms—as a potato chip bag, a remote control, plastic jar, Styrofoam cup, coiled wire, light bulbs, et cetera—but coded also into each of these objects (and the materials from which they are composed) are its life’s instructions.
