About

Canadian artist Megan Ellen MacDonald was born in 1990 in Belleville, Ontario. MacDonald graduated from OCADU in 2013 with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. She is now based in Toronto where she continues to create her captivating and thought provoking art. MacDonald's work explores themes of gender and power dynamics through the lens of genre painting.

This colorful oil painting on canvas is 48 inches high by 36 inches wide. It is wired and ready to hang. The sides are painted by the artist and it does not require framing. This painting is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas. Free local Los Angeles area delivery and professional installation, including placement and hardware. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this original work.

MacDonald’s most recent series of oil paintings challenge existing aesthetic hierarchies in painting by creating a distinct visual language. The still-life arrangements in these colorful works depict both intimate and destructive relationships between objects as an exploration of what it means to embrace femininity as agency.

Filled with lush fruits and electric colors, her work is heavily inspired by the kitsch aesthetic of both academic painting styles and contemporary pop culture. MacDonald’s work has been exhibited in Canada and the United States.

“I get a lot of questions about whether or not my paintings are sincere or ironic, and I find it's difficult for some people to accept that they are both at once. I hate absolutism and I think my work embodies that”
