Paul Kirley creates visual experiences that connect people to place as though they were dreaming. His process begins as a series of digital photographic events. Iconic images and stories are identified and catalogued. Selections are then composed and combined with found objects yielding a narrative assemblage. The final step in the process includes expressing connections between the representational landscapes and ephemeral dreamscape experiences. Links between the two worlds are created as a series of traditionally painted layers and gestures. The creative process of each piece presents opportunities to live fully immersed in the stories and places of our dreams.

Paul Kirley lives and works in California. Paul grew up in a family of artists and designers. Art was an integral part of Paul’s life as a child. Kirley’s artistic influences include a connection to landscape, buildings and place through family exposure to architecture and landscape architecture. He discovered both photography and a love of 50’s abstract expressionist painting in his teens. He dreamed Kline brush strokes, Stieglitz compositions, and Rauschenberg combined.
Each artwork transports the viewer to a dynamic environment. The physicality of the flowing paint coveys human emotions that contrast the clarity and formality of the geometric elements. Unique brush strokes and washes serve to complete the dreamscapes, adding transitional dream fragments and a sense of motion.
